- Do I need to be a student to join the Bellydancing Club?
No, you do not need to be a student. UW Madison requires that we have a certain percentage of students and we have that percentage at this time.
- Does it cost any money to join the Club?
Yes, but it is a great deal with many benefits! Please see our membership page for more information.
- It's halfway through the semester. Can I still attend practice?
You may attend the first few lessons (generally 3 weeks) without paying club membership dues. After that time period, we do not permit new students to enter a class. This requirement aids us in providing quality lessons for consistent students.
- Do men bellydance?
They certainly do! Men generally wear harem pants and a vest (or go shirtless). While they do many of the same moves as the women, the style is different, emphasizing masculinity and power.
Here are some resources about men and bellydancing:- "Masculine Belly Dance," by dancer Stefan, outlines some of the differences between how men and women bellydance.
- Zorba's FAQ was set up by a male student of bellydance who shares some of his experience and knowledge.
- Will the Bellydancing Club perform at my event?
Please see our booking page for information regarding a Bellydancing Club performance.
- Where do you practice?
Normally Memorial Union or Union South, but always check TITU for the exact room location.
- What do I wear?
Comfortable clothes that you can move in; it helps to wear clothes that allow the teacher's to see how you are doing a movement, e.g. a tank top.
- Do I need previous dance experience?
You do not need any previous dance experience to attend our beginner practice.
- I have bellydanced before. Can I jump right into the intermediate lessons?
No, every member of Bellydancing UW is required to have at least one semester of beginner lessons, regardless of past dance experience. This helps to familiarize new members with club terminology, ensure that everyone understands each movement, and keep the intermediate classes running smoothly.
- My question wasn't addressed here. Who do I contact for more information?
